The Equinox Bride Photoshoot
We celebrated the Spring equinox by setting up a marquee to stage a stylish unconventional bridal shoot in the Great British countryside. Our bride; whimsical and full of wonder – an ethereal beauty with a spunky edge.
The location was Claremont Farm on the Wirral peninsula - a hip hub for food and music lovers just across the water from Liverpool. Claremont is a working farm with an onsite eatery and organic food shop and an amazing events space both inside and out. It’s the location of our Spring showcase so it felt only right to run with the shoot there.
It all began where creative collaborations often do - over on Pinterest! After sharing a board and a few pins with pal and photographer Louise Henesy, it became very apparent that we both had very similar ideas. We wanted to create effortlessly beautiful imagery for the free-spirited bride.
Louise’s authentic, non-traditional wedding imagery could well be shot on a retro film camera and she loves to play around with light. She has a great energy and immediately makes everyone feel super comfortable in her presence. She loves to travel and she’s full of wanderlust and uncovers magic in every location, which really does show through her work.
Louise worked with the unpredictable weather and shot some truly stunning outdoor scenes!
We used Rustic Hire’s industrial furnishings - a contrast against the clean ivory of our canvas marquee and in-keeping with the rustic feel of the farm location. Their furniture and props are aged, well-travelled, lost and then found, handcrafted, restored and seeped in history.
Dramatic contrasts of texture and colour appeared throughout the shoot and Kate Bader of Florence & Vera Events was the creative stylist behind this. A pleasure to work alongside, with her laid back approach she effortlessly built a set for our eclectic vision.
Kate dressed the outside trestle with dusky pink chiffon and layers of greenery woven through. Brass candlesticks and antique glassware adorned the table and added an element of romantic vintage nostalgia.
A Biba-esque, pre-loved peacock chair made the ideal bridal throne at the head of the table and Kate styled her handcrafted macrame backdrop as an outdoor ceremony arbor with with thick foliage and pampas grass .
Kate created an informal area within the marquee, centered around the Bavarian bench. She opted for a more ‘masculine’ aesthetic and styled the space with taxidermy horns, miners lamps, flecks of blue and grey and wood slices. Rustic Hire’s woollen blankets and cushions were draped over the distressed furniture which added to the relaxed feel of the interior.
Our model, Anna, wore a simple yet beautiful dress from Six Penny Bride. She channeled her inner Stevie Nicks as we teamed the dainty vintage bridalware with a pair of her very own 1970’s blue crushed velvet platform boots, silver jewellery and Mama Inc Studio leather. As a musician herself, with a strong sense of style, it was only right for us to reflect this through her styling.
Anna’s hair was left for the wind to do it’s thing and MUA Natasha Jewell created a soft gothic look with deep red lips for our bohemian bride.
Wild Floral Design pieced together a bespoke bouquet for the shoot. Their brief was ' a wild, bohemian and feminine botanical arrangement’. The eucalyptus waved in the wind and the pampas shimmered. Pastel pink and natural shades peeped through the greenery and complimented the outdoor table set perfectly. Poppy heads and sea holly added rough, organic textures against the softness of the rose and anemone petals.
The Spring equinox marks the start of our season - a time for preparation and looking to the Summer ahead. With a sprinkling of sunshine and the early signs of life forming on the bare trees, this collaborative project with a bunch of awesome like-minded industry creatives was just the thing we needed to get us inspired and a wee bit giddy with excitement for the forthcoming months!
